looking out a barred window in the Llano, Texas jail

From inside the Llano, Texas jail. I was on a tour of the jail in May with the Austin chapter of the American Sewing Guild. We were in Llano on a day trip and the jail was one of the tourist sites that we visited.

Field trip! Two friends and I drove to Houston for the 2011 Houston International Quilt Festival. It’s like a giant candy store for fabric addicts. We walked around for hours, dividing our time between the vendors and the quilt display. Those quilts are all works of art! Did I mention that it was crowded at the festival?  It is probably the largest gathering in the world of women in one place at one time.

A good time was had by all.

A Trip To The Grocery Store

Word has it that Whole Foods Market will open a store in Glasgow, Scotland before the end of the year.

That’s just about the time we’ll be needing some black-eyed peas for our traditional New Year’s meal. Plenty of time for me to practice saying in a normal tone of voice: “Honey, I’m going to the grocery store. I’ll be back soon later. Much later.”

Saturday I took a field trip with the Austin chapter of the American Sewing Guild. We went to beautiful Llano, a couple of hours west of Austin. We had a lovely day meandering through the shops. We ate a wonderful catered lunch at the home of Lisa Dalrymple where mayor Mike Reagor joined us. Afterwards, we toured the courthouse, which has been restored, and the jail, which looks almost exactly as it did when it was built in 1895. It was in use until 1982.

Llano calls itself the Deer Capitol of the World. While I was there I picked up a loaf of sliced wheat bread from Inman’s Kitchen. They are famous for their barbecue, but I like their bread most of all. Why, it’s just the best thing since sliced bread. Oh wait, it is sliced bread!
