things aren't always as they seem

Hubby and I re-organized all our dog books last night. All the obedience books are together, as are all the tracking books, the agility books, the clicker books, the puppy books, the shy dog books, the field training books, the rally books, the structure and gait books, the dancing-with-your-dog books, the teach-your-dog-tricks books, the dog coffee-table picture books and the fiction dog books. There’s more, but they are general dog books.

Out went the Russian books from hubby’s college days, one cookbook that neither of us claimed, a fishing book, and an almanac from 1936 (the A-C and C-L tomes). We recycled all the AKC rule books with dates before 2010 (and there were a lot).

After all this effort, I was too tired to train any of the dogs. It’s always something.

My Origami Yoda

The Strange Case of Origami Yoda book and my Yoda finger puppet

I finished reading The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger. I made my own origami Yoda finger puppet, following the instructions at the end of the book.

Mine sort of, kind of, maybe, possibly looks a little bit like the one in the book, but not really. I used a regular, lined piece of writing paper and folded it while sitting up in bed. Maybe that was the problem. Also, I don’t have a light saber of any kind, plastic or origami, to add to my Yoda.

I used a permanent marker to add some green color in hopes of improving the Yoda likeness.

May the Force be with you, always.

What am I reading now? I’m reading the George R.R. Martin series A Song of Ice and Fire. I’m on book four, A Feast For Crows.

Pretty impressive, what the author imagined. All those people! And not just in groups but gazillions of individuals with names, descriptions, clothing, families, habits, horses, dreams, duties, jobs, births and deaths. I can’t keep them all straight. Arya Stark, Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow are my favorites, as well as the direwolves.

The books I’m reading are in trade paperback form, the larger paperbacks, and they are almost 800 pages long. I usually read some before I go to sleep, but if I keep to my usual habits and read only “a little bit” before I go to sleep, I’ll never get finished.

With that in mind, I’ve decided that my new (reading) bedtime will be 9:00 p.m. Oh, wait, that’s my usual bedtime. Okay, make it 8:00 p.m. See, I can be flexible!

Origami Yoda

What am I reading these days? I’m reading The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger. I’m eager to reach the end, where the instructions are for the Origami Yoda. I’ll let you know how my own Origami Yoda turns out.

Next on my to-read list is Darth Paper Strikes Back: An Origami Yoda Book, also by Tom Angleberger. Ohhh, Darth Paper. Sounds scary. Might get a paper cut while making that origami Dark Force source.
