How To Shop Note

One piece of advice for writers is to keep a pen (or pencil) and some kind of paper on the bedside table to be able to write short notes in the middle of the night without having to get up. The idea is that the note will have just enough information to trigger our memory, so we can then go off and write a great blog post, poem, short story, novel, or play.

What a great idea! And I do just that sometimes, write myself little notes right before I go to sleep.

Here’s one of my notes. I can read “how to shop for …” and that’s all. Do you see the marked out scribbles? I marked through those words and rewrote them so that they would be legible and I’d be able to pick up the idea in the morning and run with it. I just can’t figure out that last word. Falnx? Fedrh? Frihnx?

Note with some illegible writing

So much for legible writing and so much for running anywhere with that brilliant idea.
