things aren't always as they seem

Not A Test

Now that I’ve seen all the Harry Potter movies, I’m reading the books. I recently finished Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Shocked, I was, to discover just how different the movie was from the book. Yes, movies are different because it’s a different medium; I understand.

But if I had taken a test on The Prisoner of Azkaban, a test that covered who-did-what, when-something-happened and who-said-what, and if I had based my answers on the movie and the correct answers came from the book, I would have flunked. That’s how different the movie was from the book. The book’s theme was intact, but the details were changed quite a bit.

This is not a complaint, just an observation. Fortunately, this is not a test, either.

  1. Funny … I’m doing the exact same thing! I recently re-watched all the movies (except Deathly Hallows 1&2) with my daughter. This prompted me to re-read the books, & I’m on Azkaban right now. Like you, I’m amazed at all the little details that I had forgotten or that were done differently in the movies.
