Remote Traffic Reports

Yesterday we got the news that two of the local traffic reporters were laid off. One of them provided traffic reports for five local radio stations.

The parent company, Clear Channel, hasn’t given up on providing traffic reports to the Austin metro area. The Austin traffic reports will, however, be coming from Dallas from now on.

I kid you not.

Clear Channel employees in Dallas will use “a mix of public and private data to remotely monitor Austin-area traffic … tracking crashes, freeway speeds and road closures.”

Their cameras must be really, really good.
