I was roaming around the Goodreads web site the other day, just checking out what other people are reading. I noticed that they had a list for The Best Books Ever and The Worst Books of All Time. Members of the Goodreads community voted to put books on these lists.
The first page of The Worst Books of All Time lists 100 of 3,292 books. I was surprised at the rankings of some of them, that they ranked so high on the Worst List.
The first page of The Best Books Ever also displays 100 of their 11,241 books. Again, I was surprised at the rankings, that they ranked so high on the Best List.
Some books are on both lists. Somehow I’ve read more of the books on the Worst List first 100 than on the Best list first 100. I certainly won’t be able to read either list completely, so I’ll just keep choosing my books randomly. Maybe I’ll check back every once in a while, to see if my choices are still showing up more on the Worst List than the Best List. Or I guess I could vote. Is this like politics, where if I vote, I get to complain?
