A letter, for me?

Post #4: What makes me smile?

A letter. Receiving a real, honest-to-goodness snail mail letter that is delivered by an official government employee. (Marketers use the phrase “delivered by an official government employee” to make their setups and “prizes” sound important.)

But a letter delivered by said government employee (a US Postal Service carrier) is, indeed, important. Very important. No matter what else is in the mail, including guaranteed prize winnings from marketers, I open a letter first.

I love reading a letter. I read it when I first get home and see the mail. I read it again, after doing some chores. I put the letter on my bed, near my pillow, so that when I go to bed, I can read it a couple more times before going to sleep.

Writing and mailing a letter is just as enjoyable as getting one. I write them by hand. I love going to the post office and shopping for commemorative stamps.

Letters make me smile.
